WHEN GOD HONOURS A MAN

This is the last Sunday of July 2026 at Streams of Joy Abuja, covering all four services in one stream. The theme is "When God honours a man", and Pastor Jerry calls the day a coronation service. The opening prayer session is heavy on reversal - he declares the honour the enemy stole back into people's hands, prophesies "there is an honour coming… it will not exceed July", and lays hands to decree "the next six weeks will be six weeks of honour": closed doors reopening, helpers from high places, nations coming to look for people, international open doors.

Across the four services he preaches the same theme from four different texts. In the first service he opens 2 Samuel 9 - David asking, "Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him the kindness of God?" - and preaches honour by covenant. Mephibosheth was forgotten, lame and living in Lo-debar, but the covenant Jonathan cut with David in 1 Samuel 18 would not let him stay small. His charge: "The honour that is coming your way is not honour by labour. It's honour by covenant." He defines Lo-debar as any place - geographical, behavioural, relational - where honour cannot find you, and where you use your failures to excuse your position, and calls people to break out of it.

In the second service he reads 1 Samuel 16, David anointed among his brothers. Reading the verse from many translations, he lands on one point: this boy had lived in the bush and did not look like the bush. "Promise me… I will never look like the disappointments I faced." He adds that David's diligence with an assignment his father (not God) gave him - the sheep, the lion and the bear he never reported - is what qualified him, and that God rejected Eliab's appearance for David's heart posture. He ends on the oil: for the New Testament believer the oil is the Holy Spirit, and "with the oil of the Spirit… honour is next."

The third service goes to Esther 2:21 and Esther 3. Mordecai was at the gate while Esther was on the throne, and Pastor Jerry teaches "one leg at the palace, one leg at the gate" - spiritual intelligence about what is entering the gate, not only what is happening in the palace. Haman was promoted, but he came too late: Esther was already queen. "One mistake the devil made was to allow God call you a royal priesthood… anything you're going to do to me, you are doing it late." He leads the church in a repeated cry: "I will not bow" - to fear, low self-esteem, addiction, sexual immorality, besetting sin, inherited battles - and lists five marks of the Mordecai generation (a praying generation; friends chosen by destiny and kingdom; knowing when to talk and when to keep quiet; treading ground deliberately; never joking with time).

The fourth service turns the theme inward: living a life of honour, from Romans 12:10 ("in honour preferring one another") and Isaiah 14:13-15. He draws what he calls the dishonour pyramid - heart posture at the base, then pride (often silent, not haughty), then inaction, then action - with a remedy at each level: heart renewal, confrontation, instruction, discipline. He counts the six "I will"s of Lucifer and warns that dishonour creeps in when everything is about I. Repeated line of the service: "Even if you don't respect people, honour them… I may not respect your lifestyle, but I honour your position."

Testimonies run through the day - an immigration and agriculture breakthrough, a 23-week preemie in the UK now heading to preschool, twins after seven years at age 46, an eight-year professional exam finally passed, a woman who came back to God after ten years and now has a second child, and a man who traded alcohol for a clean chest X-ray.

He also urged those who want it to wait on the Lord tomorrow from 6:00 to 1:00 ("I may not have announced it on the altar, but this is the privilege of your hearing this").

Salvation

No separate altar call for salvation is recoverable from the captions, but the pastor blessed and prayed over first-timers, those adopting the church as their own, and visitors from outside Nigeria in every service. One testifier (Linda) said publicly that she gave her life to Christ while praying on the altar of fire and thanked "Pastor Jerry for leading me to Christ".

• The worship song "Ever Faithful God" by Dr. Ugoma (captions: "Dr. Ba / Dr. GMA / Dr. Guma") is a Streams of Joy song, available on YouTube and Spotify. He called her out twice and asked the church to go and listen, play it repeatedly and share it with friends and family: "This is no hype… this song is a blessing. This one is our own."

Testimonies played / recapped

• Engineer Gideon (agriculture, based in Cameroon, now also Europe) - his younger sister collapsed in 2023 with what doctors called total internal organ failure (womb, kidneys), her fiancé, a US-based doctor, read the reports and confirmed how bad it was; she was discharged in a week with nothing found. She later married and, after 17 years, the womb "became alive" and she gave birth to a baby boy. Gideon himself joined the altar of fire on 30 May 2025 while battling depression, the spirit of death and suicidal thoughts - all of which lifted. He developed an organic liquid fertiliser (revelation received in 2015), won Best Made in Cameroon 2023, and after a declaration on the altar ("immigration challenge reversed") his long-forgotten European application reopened: told to wait seven months, he was called back in two weeks and received a residential visa, now living in Strasbourg. He has since worked with professors at the University of Bremen, and his product is under Ecocert-type organic certification ("131 countries represented"). He bought flowers in Holland to plant at the new church and is joining the agricultural department.
• Engineer Bright (real estate salesperson, Abuja) - came to Abuja in 2004 broke after losing his job, lost a second job, survived on ₦5,000 calls to friends who eventually blocked his number. Last year he testified of going January-November with no single sale and nearly being terminated. Fruit of the 14 days of fasting and prayer: the Monday after the fast a long-running client paid outright, in full, including additional units; his chairman called to congratulate him before he could report the sale. He is now a car owner. He tied it to the "dominion mandate" teaching.
• A father visiting from the UK - married 2014, years of disappointment and two miscarriages; relocated to the UK in 2020 and started praying with NSPPD after his wife played it one morning. In the 2021/2022 pregnancy his wife spotted at 16 weeks and actively bled from 18 weeks; UK doctors never found the source (the placenta was sent to researchers and they have still not found it). The baby was born at 23 weeks 2 days, needing CPR, the second-youngest neonate to survive in the UK. Diagnoses included necrotising enterocolitis (≈11.4 cm bowel obstruction, operated), bilateral brain bleeds, neonatal retinopathy, a hole in the heart, chronic lung disease, chronic bone disease and liver/kidney problems. A consultant of 23 years told him to expect nothing. He held on to declarations: "In 40 days there shall be a rain of favour" (6 May), "the process may not look good, but you will carry your evidence", "your baby will not be brought back to you as a corpse", and (24 May) "your effort will not be in vain". The brain bleed vanished on repeat scans before planned neurosurgery; the retinopathy disappeared; after 6 months in NICU he was discharged. Told the boy might never walk, might be on oxygen and NG tube for years, he told the consultant to "start another research" - the child was running at two. Today the bleeding, retinopathy, chronic bone and lung disease are gone, his organs are fine, and he has just graduated nursery and starts preschool in September. He brought the boy to the altar for the pastor to hold.
• A woman (multiple testimony; announced with the "Geri and Mrs. Chinwe" set) - (1) her father had a partial stroke in January 2024; after a "stroke reversed" declaration in November he called to say he could use his hand and leg again; (2) delivered from a snake found in her parlour the night of Sunday 6 April, after attending all four services that day; (3) travelled to the Philippines to revalidate her licence - she photocopied the result slip, wrote "pass" across it and prayed over it nightly, then passed both exams first time (three attempts is the limit before a six-month wait), and everyone she prayed for passed too. She now holds a licence as second officer in marine transportation. (4) A disturbing sound in her roof from May to August stopped after the UK prayer conference.
• A woman with twins - the only girl among four brothers, all of whom had children while she waited. Married 2017, seven years believing for the fruit of the womb; lost her mother in 2023. She first walked into the church on 7 October 2023. On New Year 2024 she wrote down three words from the altar: "it will happen this year 2024", "with or without the process you will carry your evidence", "this is your year of congratulations and celebration - nothing will go wrong." She stayed for the 21 days of fasting, asked for and received two of the mantles used in the 21 days, and placed them on her stomach every single day until delivery. She conceived - her first pregnancy ever, at 46 - with twins. Queried for Down syndrome and later for excess amniotic fluid (95 against a normal 60-65), both resolved after prayer. Delivered by CS at ~37 weeks, three weeks early; the babies came three minutes apart and needed no incubator. She bled internally after the surgery and a young doctor she calls "an angel" removed a retained swab the next day, ending it. She presented a boy and a girl - Elena Olu Enrique Chidiuchi (spelling uncertain from captions) - and came to fulfil a vow made in millions, in cash.
• Esther Agore - began a professional programme in 2017, reached the final stage in 2020 and then failed paper after paper for years until she gave up, though she never stopped joining NSPPD. A word on mercy prayers ("if your faith cannot carry…") made her kneel and ask to be carried by the pastor's faith. At the 2024/2025 crossover she asked God to be done with it. She passed two papers in May, two more in November, and was inducted into the institute in May after eight years. Since finishing, "the job offers I've gotten, I cannot count."
• Linda - lost her mother, hated God and stayed out of church for ten years. Married 2019, first son 2020. In 2023 she was told at antenatal that a pregnancy she believed was 14 weeks had stopped developing at 5 weeks 5 days. A friend, Juliet, sent her the NSPPD link; she came on a Wednesday and saw the pastor weeping, and started weeping. She lost that pregnancy and another, nearly dying, then an HSG showed blocked tubes despite already having a son. She came back to the altar, gave her life to Christ, began speaking in tongues, and prayed the mercy song telling God she would serve Him either way. Her husband's career recovered, she got a job paying in millions. On the 31st-night "write 31 things" she wrote only one line - keep this baby for me - and two months ago gave birth to a baby girl. "My son has a sibling. I am a mom of two. I've broken that pattern."
• Ikenna Raymond - applied for a Kuwait visa and came to Abuja for the medical. The chest screening flagged a lung finding (captions garbled: "neurotic, tobacco" - likely tuberculosis/lung shadowing). He refused treatment and joined the altar instead; the pastor declared "every lung pneumonia be reversed" and "calm down, El-Roi is working for you." He vowed to God to stop alcohol and smoking (shisha) and serve Him for life - he had drunk instead of taking medicine for over ten years. He redid the chest X-ray to GCC standard, confirmed with the hospital, and nothing was detected. He came without the ₦180,000 (caption: "180") to rebook the medical appointment, trusting God to provide.

Words of knowledge / healing declarations

Spoken in the opening prophetic prayer:

• Someone bleeding from the breast; another bleeding from the umbilical cord - reversed.
• Someone whose two legs are twisting - reversed.
• Fluid in the lungs - reversed.
• Someone who lost both father and mother this year, and now the eldest child in the family is suffering exactly what the parents suffered - reversed.
• Academic shame - specifically someone rusticated in their final year for something they knew nothing about - reversed.
• An honour that was given to another - reversed and returned.
• A family that has not heard the sound of celebration for a long time - the next six weeks will deliver one.

1. Honour is not transactional. "Many times it is not a reward of what you've done. Most times it is a manifestation of who you are in Christ." Honour is a byproduct of your identity in Christ, and God's way of advertising His own work - "the infrastructure God puts in place in order to advertise His product."
2. Your honour is by covenant, not by labour. Mephibosheth was forgotten, crippled and hidden, but the covenant Jonathan cut with David went looking for him. "God doesn't keep His covenant and expect you to keep your own - He keeps His, then keeps yours, because by strength shall no man prevail." So do not be angry when people say you don't deserve it: "Can I be honest with you? You really don't deserve it."
3. There are three kinds of honour. Those who honour themselves - it begins and ends with their labour. Those men honour - they stay relevant only as long as those men want them relevant. And those the Father Himself chooses to honour - that one cannot be dishonoured by man, and men will keep trying to break into the code and fail.
4. Lo-debar is a position, not just a place. "Where you are can be behavioural. Where you are can be relational." Bitterness, selfishness, pity parties, fault-finding - honour cannot find you there. And you know you are in Lo-debar when you feel unworthy of favour, and when you use your failures to excuse your position: "I owe myself movement."
5. Do not look like what you have been through. David lived in the bush and did not look like the bush. "I am too purified to carry emotional baggage… don't drag demons, or their perceptions, into your new season."
6. God looks at the heart, not appearance. Eliab was rejected before he even walked in. "Appearance might be good, but heaven will keep disqualifying some people because their heart does not look like their appearance."
7. How you handle the present assignment decides the next one. The sheep in the wilderness were his father's assignment, not God's - but David gave it everything and never came home with excuses. "If your diligence is driven by the reward of men, you may end up with an average destiny."
8. Honour requires both the palace and the gate. Esther was on the throne, Mordecai at the gate. Spiritual intelligence means knowing what is entering the gate, not only what is comfortable in the palace. And the Mordecai generation prays, chooses friends by destiny, knows when to speak and when to be silent, treads ground deliberately, and does not joke with time.
9. Haman always comes late. God had already called you a royal priesthood before the crisis appeared. "Before Haman - I was there. I am already established before he appeared."
10. A man of honour will always receive honour from God. You cannot be dishonourable towards God, your parents, your leaders, your pastors or your spouse and expect God to honour you - and you must not dishonour those God used to honour you.
11. Dishonour is a disease whose carrier does not know he is carrying it - and he is usually the loudest critic of dishonour in others. It is a state of the heart before it is an act, and it grows: heart posture → pride (often silent, not haughty) → inaction → action. The cures, in order: heart renewal, confrontation, instruction, discipline. God did not counsel Lucifer; He cast him down.
12. Dishonour is more often what it does not do than what it does. Watch the conversations going on in your heart, avoid people who sow seeds that make you dishonour others, and discover people for yourself instead of inheriting other people's verdicts.
13. Honour and respect are not the same thing. "Even if you don't respect people, honour them. I may not respect your lifestyle, but I honour your position."
14. Listen properly. Learn proactive listening rather than reactive listening - when someone complains about you, "you are not important; the person that is important is the person that said it." Ask "what did you mean when you said that?" before you defend yourself.
15. Those who love us the most do not deserve the worst of our emotions. Don't take for granted the ones who show up while campaigning for the attention of people who don't care. "Nobody is an electric switch."
16. When God honours a man, He does not stop at a testimony - He crowns. And the honour spreads: your family, your children, your father, your siblings all drink from it. "The people bigger than the ones who rejected you will come back begging you to be their king."

Today / this season

• Declare over yourself: "I am not abandoned", "My honour is by covenant", "I am here by covenant", "I will still move", "I break out of Lo-debar", "I will not bow", "I have been honoured by God" - and walk up to seven, then ten, neighbours to say it.
• Promise, and mean it: "I will never look like what they did to me" - the rejection, disappointment, lies and falsehood.
• Come out of whatever Lo-debar you are in - selfishness, bitterness, pity party, fault-finding, low self-esteem, a mindset that says you are unworthy.
• Guard the conversations going on in your heart; refuse the seeds people sow to make you dishonour others; give yourself time to discover people yourself.
• Do a self-diagnostic on dishonour: check your heart posture, check for silent pride, check your body language, be vulnerable to correction - and check how you treat subordinates and your spouse, not just your boss.
• Honour your parents, your leaders and government, those who labour over you in word and doctrine (double honour), and your spouse.
• Spend fifteen minutes a day thinking about your work; be diligent in the assignment man gave you as if God assigned it.
• Give your offering, tithe and partnership as a wave offering - the "offering of honour" - and take part in the church building project (account details on screen).
