OH LORD SHOW ME MERCY

Day 3 of the Furnace of Answers opens with worship ("We know You are the rewarder of those who diligently seek You... with You nothing is impossible") and a recorded recount by Pastor Jerry of two wonders from three weeks earlier. In the first, a word of knowledge told someone sitting beside a woman declared clinically dead to turn up the phone volume and lay it beside her; when the prayer ended nothing happened, the daughter felt God had failed her, but "5 minutes later" the story turned. In the second, a wife whose husband had brain cancer surgery was told he would stay unconscious for six months and might never walk. She answered the doctor, "What God cannot do does not exist," called her husband's name in the ICU a few hours after surgery, and he opened his eyes; later, while staff removed a window to carry his stretcher out, he stood up on his feet. "We are in a season of a revival of the strange acts of God."

The long prayer section is a cry for mercy. Pastor Jerry leads the altar through the psalms of mercy: the eyes of the Lord are on those who hope in His mercy, "my flesh and my heart faileth, but You are the strength of my life," "in Thee the fatherless findeth mercy." He prays for those who "are holding on only by Your mercy," who are tired, ashamed, bereaved and confused, calling on the God of the weak, the abandoned and the oppressed. The day's cry, in his words: "Oh Lord, show me mercy, where my labour has failed, where my intellect cannot help me, where my effort cannot save me." Like the Syrophoenician woman, the ten lepers and Bartimaeus, the people call out "Jesus, mercy," and he declares that every stubborn challenge is swallowed by the compassion of the Lord, and that the mercy that raised Lazarus goes to every organ and the bloodstream.

Words of knowledge follow: a yolk sac tumour, organ failure moving from organ to organ, a one-year-old who cannot sit because of the spine, growths in the intestines, a woman who twice gave birth to children who "don't look like human beings" (he breaks it as a witchcraft attack), limbic system dysfunction, three leaking heart valves, tuberculosis, pneumonia, hypermobile joints, a cancer that "will not come back," diabetic neuropathy and the bone marrow. A minister then leads the mercy declaration from the throne of grace (Lot, Joseph in prison, Israel after 430 years, Elizabeth, Jacob), and the Lord gives the narration "new mercies" over the seed of thanksgiving, with a decree that in 48 hours "your evidence shall be called a multitude."

Testimonies played: Pastor Kenneth healed of a 10-12 year fungal scalp infection; Dr Kelly from Maryland, told after two failed IVF rounds that only an egg donor could help, now holding her baby; a woman appointed Rector of a Federal Polytechnic after a run of words from the altar; and a mother whose 12-year-old daughter planned to set her school on fire, a plot that collapsed the Monday after the mother's cry of "Father, show me mercy," and the girl is now top of her class. Pastor Jerry reflects on the mother's burden and the Pastor K team thanks him for "staying current with God."

The close carries the salvation prayer, two communions (mercy, then answers), the testimony line, the NSPPD Zambia prayer conference (half the venue gone in 24 hours), the declaration "New mercies everywhere," Psalm 91 and seven congratulations. He charges the altar for Day 4: Herod "will be decimated tomorrow."
